Some Thoughts from the Pregnant One

When I was one month away from my due date with Olivia my midwife (bless her heart) told me that I could go any day because I was dilated to a 1 and 80% effaced. As much as I loved her, that was the worst thing she could have ever told me. That was the longest month of my life, and Liv was two days late.

With this baby, however; I have felt so healthy and comfortable for the most part and I would actually be totally OK with this baby coming late. Maybe its because I feel comfortable, or maybe its just because I know that babies are just a heck of a lot easier to take care of on the inside then they are on the outside.

The ironic thing is, I keep having the feeling that this baby is going to come early and that I need to get ready. Every day I stare at my to do list and the items to prepare for the baby to come such as packing, setting up the baby swing and bassinet, washing the new born clothes, and just generally preparing for little boy Brown to come, seem to be evading the glorious check mark at the end of each day.

Have no fear, after finding out that I was dilated to 3 centimeters today, I was motivated to hop to and I have been very productive today! Granted, there are plenty of women who walk around dilated to a 4 for a month, but I was still grateful for some news that got me moving on preparing for this baby to come. We'll see how things turn out hu?

Any words of advice for preparing for labor or the hospital trip? Or just words of advice on caring for a baby boy? Are they much different than baby girls?

Never had a girl. But you'll have to get used to the "quick" diaper change. Keep some washcloths by the changing table. When you take the diaper off, IMMEDIATELY, place a washcloth over the "area" until you can put the diaper completely on. I'll be checking your blog daily now. YIPEE!!

i LOVE boys! They are great - different i am sure but great! I didn't pack for the hospital for my first until i was in labor and we were walking out the door - i am a big procrastinator, and just couldn't get myself to get a bag ready! You are doing great - so is Oscar the name you guys are gooing with - now that apparently Anoop is out?

Ooo, when I saw that you had posted, I thought it may be pics of the new baby! Dialated to a 3 - wow! Erin's advice was spot on. And my only other advice is rest. A lot. Trust me. You won't be doing much of that with two little ones.

This is so funny - my doctor appointment was on Wednesday and she said that I am also a 3 and 80% effaced! So I guess any day between now and the next couple of weeks for both of us! I'm still trying to find the motivation to get ready too. Hopefully by the end of today I'll at least have our "Go bags" packed . . . we'll see.

good luck with all your preparations! i can definitely second the comment about the QUICK diaper change-- something about the cool air hitting that boy part always makes them go, and it's amazing the distance and aim they can have for being so little! other than that, i have tons of advice on what i've learned-- from having boys, but mostly on the transition from 1 to 2 kids. i didn't think much about it beforehand, but it was huge to juggle time for the 1st where they didn't feel like their world was turned upside down. i wasn't prepared for a personality change from my 1st; it can be tough. good luck!!! let us know if we can do anything for you!

Take it easy Jess. Don't come to early or I'll be in Florida. You have to wait to have it till the 22nd. Take it easy.

I'm going to echo what Erin said - watch out for those boys when they decide they need to go. It's like a Yellowstone gyser taking off.

Oh...and while you're recovering, make sure you indulge yourself and use the PLASTIC bags at the grocery store instead of worrying about bringing your own STORE-BOUGHT bags :)
