From a Mother to a Mother
I'm in the process of weaning Buster right now. I'm almost down to one feeding a day. I have such mixed emotions about it. Part of me is happy that I won't have to take the time to sit down and feed him, and another part of me is sad that I won't have to take the time to sit down and feed him. I have always loved nursing my babies. I love the cuddle time. I love looking down into their big, beautiful eyes as they stare up at me like I'm the angel of their life. I love the feeling of their little, soft, warm body in my arms, and charting their growth progress by how far their legs stick out past my lap when I nurse them. I love knowing that I'm providing health and strength to this little baby that I brought into the world. Today as I gave Buster his bottle instead of breast feeding, I cried. I don't know why I cried I just did. Maybe it's because I feel like he has grown up too fast, and I just want him to stay little forever. Maybe it's just because I'm tired. Or maybe it's because I'm really going to miss those moments when its just me and him and looking down at that sweet little sucking face. So, today as I fed him his bottle, even though I know he can hold it himself I had to hold him and watch him drink every last drop. I sang to him and rocked him and squeezed him. I guess I can still have my moments with him, but I will miss nursing him.

since i'm new to this whole nursing thing i've done a lot of reading. it's really common to feel depressed or at least sad about weaning and they say it's partly due to the decrease in oxytocin (the love hormone), since that is what is released in your body when you nurse. we are still having a rough go with breastfeeding and sometimes i can't wait until i can stop, but i will probably get depressed about it when it's time. it's nice to have that cuddle time, just you and the babe. they just grow so dang fast.
